Yamaha has expanded its legendary supersport lineup with the introduction of the all-new Yamaha YZF-R2 (Yamaha R2), a sharp, performance-oriented motorcycle specifically developed to bridge the gap between entry-level lightweight models like the R15 V4 and larger mid-capacity supersports. Built around a refined diamond-type steel frame optimized for high-speed stability and agile cornering, the R2 captures the aggressive design DNA of Yamaha’s R-series family. It features sharp aerodynamic fairings, integrated winglets, dual-strip LED daytime running lights, and a central LED projector headlamp that mirrors the styling of the R6 and R1.
At its heart is an all-new liquid-cooled, 204cc single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve engine paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine is engineered to deliver smooth power delivery across the rev range, along with a rev-happy top-end performance ideal for both canyon carving and track days. To ensure riders can harness its power with confidence, Yamaha has equipped the R2 with a robust chassis package comprising 37mm inverted front forks, a link-type rear Monocross suspension, and dual-channel ABS with disc brakes at both ends.
Modern technology is fully integrated into the riding experience, including a 5-inch full-color TFT display with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and call alerts, multi-level traction control, ride-by-wire throttle response with selectable power modes, and an optional bi-directional quickshifter on top-tier trims. Tipping the scales at a nimble 149 kg kerb weight, the Yamaha R2 strikes a balance between track-ready ergonomics and everyday usability, offering dynamic handling, low-end flexibility, and high-spec electronics that make it a compelling upgrade for riders stepping up to dedicated sport bikes.
