The 2026 BMW R 1300 RS is powered by a brand-new 1,300 cc air/liquid-cooled boxer twin, known as BMW ShiftCam, that delivers 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. By increasing the bore to 106.5 mm and decreasing the stroke to 73 mm, BMW has boosted output over the outgoing R 1250 RS, which made 100 kW/136 hp and 143 Nm, resulting in the most powerful production BMW boxer engine to date in terms of horsepower. A counterbalancer shaft and modern engine management smooth out vibrations and improve throttle response. Power is sent through a 6-speed gearbox and shaft drive, with an optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) offering clutchless upshifts and downshifts. The RS comes equipped with three standard ride modes: Rain, Road, and Eco, with Eco tuned for maximum range, and offers two extra modes, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro, in the Riding Modes Pro package. Traction control (DTC) and Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) are standard to prevent rear-wheel lift under heavy braking. The fuel capacity is a generous 17 liters, approximately 4.5 gallons, up from about 15 liters on the old model, giving excellent range for touring. The R 1300 RS rides on an all-new chassis with a sheet-steel main frame and die-cast aluminum rear subframe, which is stiffer and more compact than the old tubular frame, allowing BMW to concentrate mass lower and toward the center. The bike has a nearly 54/46% rearward weight bias and a curb weight of approximately 272 kg, with a dry weight of 245 kg. Lighter 17-inch cast-alloy wheels with a hollow-spoke design shave over 1.4 kg off the unsprung weight of the previous RS, improving agility and suspension response. Up front is a new 47 mm inverted fork, and at the rear is an evolved single-sided Paralever swingarm. Electronic Dynamic ESA suspension with automatic damping adjustment is standard, and an optional Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) package adds automatic spring preload and damping changes tied to riding mode, a BMW first on a telescopic fork. Braking is handled by dual 310 mm floating front discs with four-piston radial calipers and a 285 mm rear disc with a two-piston caliper. BMW’s fully linked ABS Pro is standard, and an optional Sport Brake package with titanium-colored Brembo calipers gives slightly more bite. The new RS features a slim full-LED headlight with separate low/high-beam projectors and distinctive daytime running lights, and for the first time on an RS model, BMW offers the optional adaptive Headlight Pro system with additional LED elements that rotate to light up around corners based on lean angle. The cockpit centers on a 6.5-inch full-color TFT display controlled by a handlebar thumbwheel, and standard comfort and safety kit includes Dynamic Cruise Control with brake-enabled functionality and Bluetooth/USB-C connectivity. The optional Riding Assistant package adds radar-based active cruise control, Front Collision Warning, Lane Change Warning with blind-spot assist, and Rear-End Collision Warning. Despite its sporty intent, the R 1300 RS offers many touring comforts, including a standard rider’s seat height of 790 mm with an option to raise it to 815 mm, and BMW offers four accessory seats, including heated and lower sport versions. The tinted windscreen is two-tone and electrically height-adjustable, and a plush two-person seat and optional passenger grab rails or pillion backrest improve two-up comfort. For luggage, BMW has developed an all-new electrified case system. The new R 1300 RS introduces several BMW-first features, including the optional Dynamic Suspension Adjustment system and the adaptive Headlight Pro, giving the bike a sharper look and better aerodynamics, which boosts the claimed top speed to about 149 mph.
